We know that half of the world’s population now inhabits cities and we anticipate that in the future 100% will migrate to the city. So imagine the city can co-exist with nature, with historic sites, with drastic changes of climate.
The utopian city is a global effort! It will relate to any country, continent and tradition. So we made a city sample that is located on a special site with water, flat land and mountain topography in order to show our solution is a plug and play system that can be used anywhere - in the favelas of Brazil, in the growing cities of China or in the heart of ancient Rome. In each place our simple structure can implement the local context in the shape, color, light and even furniture. And even in each CT-Cube there is plenty of room for personal interpretation. A city should be self sufficient, simple (SIMplicity/simpliCITY) but yet advanced, with a room for individual creativity but still efficient as a human beehive. Social responsibility was the leading principle of the CT-Cube idea as we need to give all future generations a place to live and work with dignity and satisfaction. The infrastructure can stay empty and let the dwellers inhabit it gradually or evacuate it according to the change of needs. The city as a background - why shouldn't we keep yesterday’s fields and flowers for the next generations as well? The city should become a frame, an infrastructure that supplies all the functions of a city without making fuss about it! City(ing) with Nature is achieved if we look at the infrastructure as a spatial sponge or fluffy structure that allows green to climb slowly on its walls like vines. This will allow urban quality to be achieved in higher ground if you put public playgrounds, sport facilities, parks and small gardens without too much effort. Why choosing the cube? The future will always be Modern, modern is a state of mind, it can never become history… modern shapes are timeless and therefore always relevant! Putting the cube on its side will make minimal intervention with existing layers on the ground. Urban acupuncture and aerial docking will free the land from the growing population but will still have a strong connection between the two. Our infrastructure, transportation, water, energy, sanitation will be produced by the cubes using clean energy that will be produced from photovoltaic facades, spatial green terraces that will grow needed food, recycling infrastructures that will constantly reuse all the city waste and so on. Each CT-Cube can be totally independent with small-scale communities in large-scale cities and yet can help and support leaning CT-Cubes which might suffer temporary malfunction. Work, life and play will occur in a clean air space, with magnificent view and optimal natural light and green exposure no matter how high you are above ground. Each cube will contain a factory for producing the next cube to be located near it and in this way will always produce affordable housing and on demand high density living. Sustainable lifestyle is essential in the future as well as in the present. The most important theme for utopian architecture should be Sustainability! Ecological aspects as well as social, technological and many other holistic parameters should be intertwined within the CT-Cube. Although one might see in our proposal a megastucture it is actually a major sustainable infrastructure with minimal footprint that can yet function as a city for millions. The simple cube shape can behave as a growing molecule ready to challenge any urban growth or ecological catastrophe. The decline being experienced elsewhere will not occur once the regeneration of the city takes place above the old city. The growing urban populations will occupy all sorts of inbetween spaces and will have the freedom of infinite vertical growth. A network of cube cities will be able to hover above sea or land and will make a spatial chain that will perform as a double skin to the existing natural earth skin. Endless urban growth potential and Fractal evolution of S M L XL CT-Cubes will make the world city skin a diverse organism. The sky is truly the limit. CT-Cube is all about endless city deployment allowing Air/Sun/Transportation Flow around the clock. Ecological responsibility will make utopian cities Eco Friendly from the beginning and more aware of natural disasters by using earthquake absorbent, tsunami and water resistant and structural balance between all the cubes - making the entire infrastructure stronger. Utopian cities will respect the history as well as the future by saving the existing fabric, freeing the land and allowing panoramic views to the past, present and future!
